I purchased this book so I could read it with my 8 year old son. He is absolutely obsessed with Minecraft. I have watched him play the game and even attempted to try it myself at his request. I love video and PC games, but I will confess, Minecraft is not one of my favorites. Throughout the course of several years of my son playing it I have learned about the many characters and all the different materials. That being said, I really enjoyed this book. The experience of sharing something my son absolutely loves with him was fantastic. I read with my children (8 and 3) almost every night. This book kept my son's attention the entire time we read it. My 3 year old daughter was happy to listen to the story and my son's commentary with the help of her stuffed MLP toy. This book focuses on Steve. He is the first character I remember hearing about back when my son first began playing the game. I think Steve is a great character. In this book he takes you on an amazing journey. The first person perspective makes it easy to get pulled into the story as if you were there, or at least playing too.My son was so excited that he was talking about the book/story to his friend the next day at the bus stop. I even found myself telling my brother about it so my nephew (also an obsessed with Minecraft 8 year old) could enjoy it.As soon as we finished this book my son asked if there were more. I am planning on purchasing the next 2 books (both at the same time to save a little cash) as soon as we are finished with our library books. I have to say that I am more of a fan of Minecraft now than I was prior to reading this book. I feel like I might give the Minecraft Story Mode game another shot now.I was able to enjoy this awesome book at a discount. My genuine opinion of this book is that it is a fantastic story that deserves a 5 star rating.

I have read several Minecraft e-books to my young children because, like so many others, they are obsessed with the game. I like to have e-books on my tablet for when I want to distract or entertain them for a while when we're not at home, and reading books about Minecraft is a sure way to keep them occupied. Some of the books I've read had been mildly entertaining, but their real value has been in the delight in my children's expressions and their use of imagination. Others I've read have been really terrible and almost painful to wade through. This book, however, was a delight. My kids were riveted, and I was also very intrigued, despite my lack of interest in the game. I've made myself knowledgeable about the game for their sakes, but this book doesn't require it, giving a good enough description of the different characters that even a newcomer could understand the story. But it's the writing that really caused me to post this review! This is NOT a book that you have to force yourself to finish. In fact, I was just as disappointed as they were when we had to stop reading before we finishing it to attend to real life situations. The writing is engaging, with descriptive language that neither overwhelms nor bores. So many self-published books (as I assume this is) suffer from a lack of editing, and this book doesn't appear to have that problem. Often, too, stilted dialogue can trip up an author, and this book has cleverly managed to avoid that problem. The plot moves along at a good pace, not getting bogged down in details or zipping past key events. It's engaging and suspenseful without being frightening to young kids, and they are so excited trying to figure out what's going to happen or why things are happening. We finished the book today after starting it yesterday, and they were discussing it repeatedly in the interim, very eager to hear its resolution. (They were equally disappointed and delighted to find out it was part 1 of 3.)I can say in all honesty that I have enjoyed this book and am already reading Book Two to them even though we're at home with our print library today. This is a book that will be enjoyed by both Minecraft fans as well as the friends and family reading it alongside or to them.

Pros:- Good book that had a little eerie atmosphere to it- Nice length and not to long of a read- Really opens the world of Minecraft and what is going on in some of the minds of players- Love the protagonists dog!Cons:- Kind of confusing on what is happening if you've never played minecraft before- Might be a little too eerie for kids depending on their ageI liked this book but I can see how it might be a little confusing to those that don't play minecraft like me. I couldn't understand some of the subtle hints to the game because I've never actually played it. I did find myself wondering what would happen later in the book and found it quite interesting disregarding the fact that I have never played minecraft. I really liked the first person perspective of the book since I do like playing first person games specifically. Another part of the book that I liked was the dog companion, I love dogs!! The book had a little eerie atmosphere to it and might be a little scary for kids to read it during the night.I was asked to review this product by a third-party. This is a free e-book and I promise that this is my honest and non-biased review.

Got this to read for my Minecraft-loving 8 year old son because it was free and well-rated.Bottom line is that he really liked it and I ended up buying the last two parts for about 4 bucks: The Quest: The Untold Story of Steve - Book Two and Book Three (The Unofficial Minecraft Adventure Short Stories)TIP: Buy parts 2 and 3 together instead of separately to save some money. There were some minor grammar/typos but no big deal.5 stars overall.

Basher Science: Planet Earth: What planet are you on?, by Simon Basher

    From Booklist

Basher continues his series of science primers that are so entertaining, kids may read them for fun, beyond the classroom walls. Once again, a cast of endearing, goofy, globby-bodied cartoon creatures embody the concepts. Each one appears on its own spread and is grouped into categories, such as “Landlubbers” (i.e., continents) and “The Insiders,” including the earth's crust. As in the previous titles, the authors blend a surprising wealth of facts into the chatty, humorous text, which is filled with analogies kids can relate to. A hot spot in the earth's mantle, for example, is “like a huge, angry pimple on Earth's face.” The format, which allows limited space for explanations, works less well in the case of more complex concepts, such as the food web and water cycle, so readers will most likely need other sources to fill in details. But the highly approachable language, animated cast of characters, awe-inspiring facts, and conservation messages make this an appealing starting point for students seeking basic earth-science information. I got this book for my 9 year old son to supplement the home school curriculum that we use. He is really interested in everything about the Earth right now! This book presents a lot of fact in a way that keeps his attention. We both like that the information is presented from the point of view of what is being described. I'm looking forward to checking out more of these books. We now have The Human Body, Rock and Minerals, Planet Earth and Astronomy. My son reads them often and can usually find something new every time.*I paid full price for this item. This is my honest, unbiased opinion.

We love all of the Bashers books, and have purchased every one of them since they first came out with the Periodic Table of Elements when my kids were still in grade school. All of the Bashers science books present the material in a simple and organized manner which makes learning easy. In addition to the simple way the books are structured, the art work is charming and really adds to the learning experience. My children are young adults now, and we still continue to enjoy these books, they are even educational for adults! These books are a fun way to review information or get a quick overview of a topic you are just starting to learn. I would highly recommend any Bashers books.

I really do not understand why but my 8 y.o., who would rather play on the computer than read a book, is obsessed with these Basher books. He brings them to school, he reads them on his own... I have ordered several of them, and will order more. He also reads the ones that are way above his comprehension level and loves them, constantly telling me bits of info from them.

My students love these books AND I love these books! I have students who reach for them when they are done completing classwork, after tests and in study hall. I teach 7th grade science and I am constantly using these as in class references to explain topics to students who may not understand; these books put vocab into kid friendly terms that aren't intimidating. I currently own around 8-10 of the science themed books from Basher, I buy them as they get published and have been building my "library" for about 5-6 years now. These would make an excellent gift for any kid, a teacher or yourself for that matter. They have amazing graphics, are excellently written and are well made/bound.

First off, the information is 100% accurate. And then the author/illustrator runs off with creative animie characters and clever descriptions. The book is captivating, amusing, and smart. Each topic is covered in a two page spread, one page is the illustration of the hero, the other the zany description our hero/villain. This format lends itself to both browsing and cover-to-cover reading. This year, I used this book as the background text for the earth unit in our homeschool (gr 2&5) To keep it fun, I did not assign reading in this book (assignments are boring) we just talked about the characters and jokes in the book, "Did you see Rift Valley's head? Yeah, he's got a splitting headache!" I covered the same topics in the same general progression of the text with experiments, diagrams to color, and puzzle-based worksheets. My kids read the text themselves several times. At the end of the unit we played charades and had some good laughs.I am a huge fan of the Basher science books. When our first Basher book arrived at our house, my children bickered for who got to read it first. Ever since, I order them in pairs so it's all fun.

This book is a little bit cheesy. I needed to get it for a science curriculum I’m using for my 6 year old and he doesn’t even like it. It feels like it’s dumbed down a lot.

we found our 1st Basher book in Ho Chi Minh City airport 2 years ago & bought it for our son to take on holiday. Boy, he loved it so much we have bought almost every other book ever written in the series because not only does he love them, but also his little sister! They are now 8 & 10 years old and have so much fun while they learn...we thoroughly recommend all of these great little books.

The basher serious is a wonderful addition to teaching children many different subjects. The book was shipped on time and was in good condition as described. I highly recommend them. This Planet Earth edition is great to teach the grammarian our world and what it's made of. Happy learning!
