This book can be used by amateur astronomers to evaluate the performance of telescopes. It is incredibly detailed and the high end professional can enjoy the in depth scientific reasons for optical phenomena. Those of us, including myself, who aren't quite as high up on the professional ladder can still enjoy this book and get lots of benefits from reading it. What was most impressed upon me was how easily a telescope can be classified as poor by the uneducated evaulater.If I was able to understand everything in this book I would have said "I love it"Also the book is very well made physically using very high quality paper and excellent binding.

I really think the writing is at times rather poor. The explanations could be done much better. I particularly think the analogies with audio concepts just don't correlate very well with optics.The organization of topics is a bit herky jerky at times too.For content organization issues, mediocre explanations, and overwrought analogies I would rate this a 3 and barely that.On the other hand, this info is just invaluable to an amateur telescope owner. The star test is so revealing and so highly useful to evaluating your scope. And the book is about more than just that. Lots of info beyond just the star test. About how that test works, why it is so revealing, what it reveals etc. etc. and etc. The underlying content sometimes takes a real effort on the reader's part to understand. But is so highly useful it is very much worth the effort. Don't know of another source that compares. The info content I would rate a solid 5.So in the end I give it a 4 all things considered.If you want to know more about basic telescope optics, then "Telescope Optics : Complete Manual for Amateur Astronomers by Harrie G. J. Rutten and Martin A. M. Van Venrooij" is a better book. Yet it is more theoretical and explanatory. So much of Suiter's book has info that is pertinent and useful to you as a telescope owner. I really think any amateur astronomer owes it to himself to own both. I would suggest the Rutten and Venrooij book be read first. Follow it up with Suiter's book.

This book has probably everything you may want to know about the theory of star testing. It is a purely theoretical book based on state of the art calculations of the diffraction phenomena in astronomical telescopes peformed and written by a physicist. The book includes a short summary of the most common observations for everybody who does not want to read the entire book (and that is probably 99.9% of the readers including myself). You can then go into the chapter of the particular effect you are interested in to read more detail, for example spherical abberation.

A lot of what’s here is over my head but I guess that’s good . Very informative and beyond where my comprehension quits .

Wow! Waaaaaaay to technical for me to wade through. It was written by a PHD and it shows!

This is a very fine technical manual not written for the scientifically illiterate. Text and illustrations and exceptionally well-done and offer clear concise instructions on how to perform the test using either starlight or artificial stars. Every astronomer or telescope equipment lover should/must have this book if he is to realize maximum performance from his equipment. Highly recommended for those serious about maximizing telescope performance, or debugging image quality problems.

This book is more easily read than I anticipated - the author makes the topics easy to understand. Very useful practical interpretations in addition to theoretical background material.

I've been designing and developing web sites for ~15 years now - mostly by hand (you know: barefoot, in the snow, uphill both ways). I've done plain HTML sites, classic ASP sites, and ASP.NET sites (and, I'm ashamed to admit, I dabbled for a bit in... ... FrontPage and Dreamweaver). I've wrestled with DNN a bit and used Kentico to build a couple shopping carts. But most of my coding has been ASP / ASP.NET. I love the ability to control EXACTLY (as exactly as one can on the web, that is) what displays, and where.But recently, I've needed to build a couple pro-bono sites that the owners will need to maintain themselves. So I was looking for a CMS solution, and decided to give WordPress a try, even though I've never done anything in PHP before. I installed WP and added a couple themes, then started poking around under the hood. My deep-seated need for control immediately sent me scurrying to Amazon to look for a guide that would help me learn how to get in and tinker with things with minimal breakage.Friedman's book is that guide. It was a quick read, with enough detail to be helpful but not so much as to bog me down. It has lots of links to helpful online sources. And now I feel confident that I can get done what I need to get done in WordPress. I also have a sense of the depth of what else is out there.(Regarding the links - I had tried a couple of the links, and they worked. Then the links stopped working. I was getting 404 errors on the author's site. I submitted feedback via the contact form on his site and had a response back probably within an hour. By the next day, the links were working again. It's nice when an author stands behind his work.)

Book and download project files seem outdated. Used the contact form on author's website with a general question about getting practice/project file to work and never heard back. Scrolling through the site I noticed the comments on various pages stop in year 2013, seems like this book/site has been abandoned. I've had success learning how to build WP themes using the site TeamTreeHouse, easy to follow along videos and updated project files.TreeHouse Blog Reader - their blogI'm stuck with a book I can't use :/

Only read up to page 12 but I hate it. Small grey type on a white page? A Web "Designer's" guide? You've got to be kidding.Next time get a typographer to work with. Wolfson press even has the nerve to take credit for interior design.Well I guess, you can't just a book by it's cover.(Or did the printer just run out of black ink ;-( ).

Don't waste your time, the book is over all ok, but it refers to all kinds of online content that is linked through their website that has been closed with no forwarding address and no response from anyone. Skip it and move on.

I'm a front-end website designer with medium knowledge of JavaScript. As WordPress is vastly becoming the number one requested site from small business around the world, I started my search for a great book on WordPress Custom Themes from scratch. Not any easy search. After reading about 3 other books while I waited for Jesse's book to be released (I pre-ordered this book) I just could not truly get the hang of WordPress... The other books were just teaching me assuming I had some knowledge in "php"[whole different world for a web designer] and the explanations were just too poorly explained. After finally receiving Jesse's book the first chapter immediately made me love this book. Jesse's explanation on WordPress theming is just so fantastic that truly anyone can create a custom WordPress site with this book alone. This book is half the size[pages] than the others I have purchased and I walked away with a bigger learning experience just alone from this book. I could not believe how great of a JOB Jesse did to always keep the readers attention captured in this book. I am web designer with no time for school and not a big fan of reading. So, it is very rare that I can find a book that I can read more than once and never feel bored with the author. This book has thought me so much and is the first book I truly recommend to anyone who is looking to start a WordPress theming business. Jesse's explanations throughout the book are so clear that after finishing this book I truly felt so comfortable creating websites via WordPress. If, you are doubting yourself don't, I have recommended this book to all my web buddies and every single one has thanked me for recommending this book. In the simplest words this is just truly thee best book on the market for web designers who want to get into WordPress. Thank you, Jesse, for this book. Plus, all the code examples in this book really work. That's always a major plus in a book.Don't let a few bad reviews from disgruntle people discourage you from this book. I have read all the published books currently on the market for WordPress theming and all other books were teaching me at a level that I should got not catch on. I was so overwhelmed with all the information they were trying to teach me in one book. From my experience WordPress theming is an impossible thing to master from one book. Not impressed. First and foremost, the author sucks at punctuation and grammar. Disappointing delivery of the material. I think the book was written simply as a justification for the author to be a jerk, rather than providing humorous insight. New to the industry, I couldn't wait to get my hands on something less technical as an opportunity to learn and be entertained. This book missed the mark.

Funny stuff. Good laughs for the old guys.Important lessons to see for the up and coming techs. Read it and don’t be an ass.

Pretty funny anecdotes from a guy who has been in the trades a long time. There are a lot of typos and misspellings, some bad grammar and the like. Overall, though, that stuff doesn't matter much - it's about the years of funny experiences the author is imparting to you.I'm a handyman, not an HVAC tech, so some of the finer points he makes in his stories went over my head, but I enjoyed them nonetheless.

Great little book, just keep in mind it's more from the residential perspective. You'll find a lot of "been there!" moments. Nice for a little bit of a gut check for when you think you know everything, cuz nobody does.Oh yeah, and the chapters are very bite-sized. Perfect for taking a seat in the erhm...home office.Surprised I haven't seen this one at the partshouses, actually....

Fantastic book with many examples of what not to do, many suggestions about how to do a better job. I found the writing to be personal, had an easy flow and was very entertaining while maintaining value to hvac technicians. This book certainly does not suck!

The book is honest, fun, real life stories of "opportunities," "issues," and "problems" that arise in the everyday life of an HVAC Service company. Chapters are short and easy to read. Could be used to train your staff and improve service to clients (unless the client is the issue - stories on those, too).

Have read half the book in two days, that says alot for me . These stories are so true and remind you of some of the funniest things that happen in the Hvac field
