I LOVE this book. It is a great book for someone who likes to know the nitty gritty of every little bit of what they are doing and why. When I took Pilates lessons my instructor became a little annoyed by my constant questioning about which muscles are we working, how does this affect this set of muscles, what can I do to improve this, and how can I modify this is I have a certain limitation. I think she felt that I was slowing down my learning but for me it was because I wanted to understand so I could do it just right. (or maybe it reminded her of a 3 year old asking questions for which she had no answers). Many people (especially those who are not learning to do Pilates for fun) may find this book filled with too many anatomical details but I think that they would still like it because it gives lots of info (what they refers to as cues) so that you can learn to do it right (not everyone lives near a Pilates studio or can afford classes). If you prefer to learn by watching then this may not be the book for you but I think that you could still benefit from information on technique and modifications. If you feel overwhelmed by scientific names or don't really care about the mechanics of the exercise, stick with a class or CD or Amazon prime video. Also I don't recommend any books on Kindle except for little mini guides and fiction or poetry. As Kindle works now it is not the best format for reference books or complex cookbooks or exercise - anything where the material references back to another part of the book - like this one.

Among other factors like smoking history, diet, and family and medical history, doctors look at these markers to measure a person’s health: flexibility, strength, endurance, and balance. "Pilates Anatomy" builds on all four of these areas in this 10-chapter book. It’s a deep dive look into a well-being philosophy that originated in Germany at the turn of the century. For the mainstream, home-based user, this “illustrated” anatomy guide is a little dense - it feels more geared toward instructors or studio managers. The “Look Inside” feature is an accurate depiction of the 200+-page workbook, so if that preview appeals to you, and you are building your knowledge base to professional-level expertise, then this is an excellent resource. If, however, you are looking to expand your yoga or regular fitness routine with a Pilates workout, I recommend Anatomy of Fitness Pilates, instead.

I have many spine problems, and this is THE best core exercise book I've found after much research. The illustrations are very good. The descriptions are excellent, and it makes it easy to understand not only the importance of proper posture, and quality of posture over quantity of exercise, but it covers scenarios to adapt if you are weaker or staring out, or must modify for injuries.I really like that it has various programs. Exercises must be done in a certain order for maximum effectiveness, and this book has a great selection of programs from beginner to advanced to avoid muscle memory and stagnation. All you need is a yoga mat or two, and read this book full before starting so you really understand the importance of the timing of breathing, how to "hold in" your core, and how to time your moves. It maybe be hard and awkward at first, and you may even need a trainer for the first few times if you have no experience with pilates (it is very different than yoga core work, or other conventional core work). But you will pick it up quickly, and your abs and core will become very strong which is great for spine stabilization.

This is really an excellent book on pilates. It covers all levels from beginner to advanced. The anatomical drawings are superb, as are the descriptions of the positions. A very helpful feature: they suggest an image to visualize to help you get the correct "feel" of the position; i.e. imagine you're a strung bow, or imagine your leg is the cover of a heavy book. I love this book!

As a fascinated pilates student, this really helps me understand more about my own body and the benefits of practicing numerous positions. The diagrams are very clear and the descriptions of the muscles involved are detailed and accurate. This book does what it says, it covers the anatomy of the position. That's all. I would have preferred the book to have covered more positions especially ones which involve the neck and arms. Hence my four stars.

While taking a 500 hour certification Pilates course I felt the need to better understand the muscles being used in certain exercises. Typical anatomy books do not directly speak to this topic but this book is great for that. Easy to understand, great graphics and the specificity of the original exercises makes this a must have for anyone studying to teach or studying for personal practice enhancement knowledge.

I like being able to look at each exercise and understand which parts of the body are the primary muscles and bones that I need to access to complete each exercise. The text and illustrations are clear. I'm not PMA certified, I just like to supplement the training I'm getting from my instructors with books at home.

This book gives you the inside knowledge of what Pilates Exercises are accomplishing as per each muscle group. I believe it gives you more incentive to work out knowing this information. It doesn't mean that one needs to attain the knowledge of a physician in order to understand the general concepts. It helps you shape your workout to your needs, I believe. I have been doing Pilates for 3 months with a Personal Trainer and have seen the results but wanted to know more about the subject. I think one day I may become a personal trainer myself as I am very enthusiastic about Pilates. I have worked with weights all my life but I believe Pilates is easier on the joints and yet gives you very good results in muscle tone, balance, and that very famous 'core' strength. In summary, it you want to delve a little bit more into the philosophy of Pilates exercises and how they affect your muscles, and your muscle tone, this is an excellent book and easy to read, and has illustrations as well.

An excellent, well thought out resource on Go. If there are any features of the language that you think need to be demystified, then they are probably given an excellent treatment in this book; it covers pretty much everything.Whereas Go has excellent official documentation, it can be very technical and not a little overwhelming when one is just starting out. This book builds an excellent foundation of understanding, nicely filing the void between simple on-line tutorials and the complexity of the official spec. Obviously there are details in the official documentation that go well beyond what is covered in this book, but if you want a head start in being able to understand those things when you have to look them up, then you can't go wrong reading about them in this book first. There are several really good reasons to read it if one wants to learn Go:It fills in the gaps while managing to explain things in clear and simple terms; if you find the official docs a little hard to read and wish someone would explain them to you, this book does that really well.It shows (and explains) very idiomatic examples of written Go, and why they are written that way. If your code looks like the examples that you see in this book then you're doing it right. It contains examples of *how* things are implemented that vastly help clarify why they would be done one way vs. another. Ever wonder "but why is it idiomatic to do it that way?" You can probably find the answer in this book. The subjects flow well one from the next; each chapter introducing new material principally relays on basics already covered in order to explain it. This makes for a gradually improving understanding of Go in the language of Go.A caveat or two:This is not a beginners book. If you haven't spent several months coding (in Go or another language) and/or don't have at least a basic computer science education, etc. then you will likely find the material overwhelming; this book aims to demonstrate Go to programmers, and does an excellent job of it--there are certainly better resources for people totally new to programming. The second chapter is a helluva thing. You might as well skip that (or gloss over it) and (re)read it after you've understood everything else. All other material should be read in sequence, then go back to chapter 2.Bottom line: this book is almost perfect. It is an excellent resource for the intermediate programmer. The only significant improvement would be to have the authors teaching a class, using this book as its primary text.

It is very focused on walking through bits of code step by step. That's not the ideal approach for me, but I can see it has some virtues. However, many times a block of code was printed more than once. It felt a bit like it was being done to stretch the page count.

I just began reading the book and tbh, I was excited to read it. I bought the book to read during my travel, but then I found out that EVERY PAGE on the right side of the book has a "white line" or the missing ink on it. It "covered" some of the texts and I can't read them. This appeared on every right page of the book. Since they offered free ebook along with it, that's my workaround if I really want to know what the texts are on the missing line (This is very frustrating).

Once you have the basics of Go via the Go "Tour" or Caleb Doxsey's "Introducing Go", this is a great book to help you get settled into the ecosphere of Go. The authors provide interesting internals in an understandable and useful way.

The content in this book is great, however the copy that I bought has lines that aren't fully printed on almost every single page. It's practically impossible to read these sentences

Excellent introduction to Go that took a village to write and it shows. The book definitely benefited from the early reviews and Go community involvement in the editing process. Wished all Mannings offerings were this exceptional.

A good source of information regarding Go and it's features. You will need some previous technical knowledge in order for this book to be really useful.

    Excellent presentation of the material.

Is this a comprehensive dive into everything Go? No it is not. However, if this isn't your first language then this book does a great job of getting one up to speed. The rest can be acquired form Go's excellent documentation.

I first heard of John Ramirez’s testimony on YouTube and it was one of the most poignant ones. It was an incredible testimony and seeing such amazing reviews on the book, I thought the book was going to be a more in depth look into the realm of the demonic but it wasn’t. It’s more of an autobiography of one’s tough and dysfunctional upbringing and how that has caused a young man to search for love in the wrong places. In this case, it was into the arms of the devil. It’s a story about the lack of self love more than anything else.I wish there was more info about the actual witchcraft and demonic powers and how that all works so the knowledge will be a weapon for spiritual warfare. There was none really. For instance, John would say his spirit would fly around the community to curse people and he would land and be chased away by Christians. And thats it. I wanted to know how these Christians saw him in the spirit form...?? As the reader, it left me feeling a bit teased and wanting more. There is no doubt that john has lived an incredible life and has an incredible testimony, but to give us all the information on how demons actually work in the supernatural and natural, their limitations, their weaknesses, their strengths, everything that john knows (cuz I’m sure he knows a lot) would be a power tool/info for those educating themselves through books. I guess I was expected a informative guide book of sorts because it has that incredible potential.John, write us a part 2! Give us the details brother! Lol. In order to fight the enemy, we must first know who he is and what he can and can’t do. There are people who has this amazing information and they need to share it with the world.Lastly, I didn’t mean to undermine this great conversion to Christianity by my review. My heart is joyous for all those who has won that battle and join the good.

This testimony is life changing, awakening and breath taking. I studied so much on John Ramirez after hearing his testimony and knowing he was from the same neighborhood as my mother. Mi abuelito dabbled in Santeria, and just as John said in so many of his interviews, it’s made to seem cultural. I remember my mother telling me stories about my grandfather and his statues and she chalked it up as “something he did [as a Puerto Rican man] and lighting candles” that she didn’t fully understand. When I did my own research as an adult, I asked her if “Santeria” sounded familiar to her and she stopped in her tracks and replied “Yes”. She said she remembered the statues, and the candles but that was it. I told her from my studies and research, it was voodoo/witchcraft and my clueless Christian mother had no idea what her father was into. Thankfully, I had a praying grandmother who covered my mother, and my mother some years later, after her death, became a believer. This testimony, John’s transparency, and research, has shown me JUST HOW DEEP THIS GOES. THANK YOU JOHN. PLEASE KEEP WITH YOUR MINISTRY!!! You are my spiritual Tío from afar and I appreciate your willingness to share.

This book, from start to finish, was absolutely amazing. It draws you in the moment you begin reading the first few pages. I thank God for John Ramirez and this powerful testimony. The redemptive and loving power of God shined mightily throughout this book. I learned so much about the true power of prayer and intercession. In reading this book, I understood more about God's power and how He protects us. We serve a mighty God. He is sovereign, magnificent, and beautiful. He is merciful, and He loves us. Immeasurably. God is worth serving, and this book is worth reading! Get it!!!!!

This is a great book and I highly recommend it. John Ramirez tells you the truth about what is going on behind closed doors. He explains what the devils plan is for your life. This book tells about what he did to become a high ranking Satanist and how God brought him out of it. I have read this book several times. It has helped me to understand the hidden spiritual world that influences many things around us. This book and Unmasking the Devil, another book by John Ramirez, has helped me to see that there is ONE that is greater than the devil.

This is an excellent book to read if you are seeking information about the occult. This writer really knows what he is talking about since he was so deep into the occult. I enjoying learning the process, rites and steps to becoming a witch and warlock. But most of all I appreciate the warnings that the writer tell about getting involved with such dark, dangerous practices. The book was well written and easy to follow. Praise the Lord that the writer found his way out from such evil and into the light of God's love and understanding. My personal warning is do not mess with this dark force. You will pay a price for your choice.

I had the privilege to meet brother John yesterday he prayed over my family and I what a blessing! A true anointed man of God. God blesses him to bring people to Christ. To open our eye's. To know about spiritual warfare. And to learn how to put the armor of God to fight satan and his demons through the Almighty name of Jesus Christ. I highly recommend all his books/audio cds. Thank you brother John we love you and pray for you, your family and your ministry! Thank you so much brother John for revealing the truth!

My daughter was glad I had ordered the Fact Tracker soccer book as well as the story version for her son Since I know nothing about the game, I intend to read the book before I give it to her. What would the World Cup games be if the viewers did not know the fine points of what is happening on the field. Dull.

We have the entire magic tree house series in our 3rd grader's home library. So for my 8yr old son who is crazy abt soccer this purchase was a gift this summer. He has read it couple of times. It goes well with Soccer Sunday book.

Another stocking stuffer gift from Santa Claus. These books will be enjoyed for years to come.

Great series for the 3rd grade level!

Just trying to complete the set. Will read later

Lots of information for the elementary soccer lover!

Some older and some newer players highlighted. My 8 yr old son likes it

Great writer of kids books. My ten year old started reading her five years ago. He has moved on to more advanced books but still is not ready to give up Magic Tree House.

A book and a message that changed my life years ago. It's been sad to read "christians" tear down this message, trying to hyper-critique the ways John shares stories from the Bible or how he speaks to men. Men all over the world found freedom to be themselves in their experience and relationship with God, to begin to actually walk with God, hear His voice and know His heart. I know men all over the U.S. who began to rise up to love their wives, find their calling, engage the lives of their kids, and begin to love the life God has given them and live it well! And thousands of families have also experienced so much good because of this.If you're the type that feels it's your god-given duty to scour the texts of books to find all "the errors" and expose "heresy", I'm sure you can (or already have) gleefully torn away at John's message. But, honestly, I ask, "Really? Why not just become an IRS agent instead?" And, I say, "Get a life." Sincerely, I say, go get a life that worth's living! Stop hiding behind your computer or your pulpit or your religious duties or your secret addictions and find the wide open spaces of life! The message of WAH, both in the book and in the retreats Ransomed Heart put on based on this message was an invitation for me to experience God in ways I never thought possible and to experience life in its fullness in ways I never thought possible. And not only was it an invitation, it was permission to finally live my life. Maybe that doesn't make sense to many, but it was a game-changer for me. After returning from a WAH retreat, my wife literally said to me, "What happened? You even look different." My life will never be the same. Nor will the life of my wife and my children.

I am not surprised there was a lot of negative feedback on the topics expressed in this little book. In these times it is no longer valid to use gender to explain why you may like or dislike certain things. This book is not meant only for the jock, or the outdoorsman. It is meant for the heart that yearns to find ways to express a passion that may seem wrong for a Christian man, and that's really it.There are many opinions on how we should behave, or more recently that we do not behave as men have in the past. It is true we are meant to be adventurous and a bit wild but that is a different thing for each man, not a template- the author was simply expressing it as he himself saw it. It is up to you to find your passion, your wild side, and break free of the life you may mistakenly think is correct as a follower of the Way of God. But there are many different paths, as long as we stay on that straight and narrow one, neither turning to the left or the right- being obedient, faithful. I would say if it doesn't trouble your spirit, go for it! The only opinion that matters is Gods, not mans.I myself do many things that aren't considered manly yet also do things that are over the top! For example, I write poetry, rescue ladybugs, read about decorating and color and style, and tear up over emotional things- I am sentimental, and I try to show empathy to others at all times. I also carry a concealed firearm, practice Tang Soo Do and Krav Maga, and regularly work out with weaponry such as knives and sticks- and I am trying to learn Iado, the Way of drawing and cutting with the katana. I love long walks, but I don't watch sports, and can't tell you anything about any team. I don't bunjee dive or shoot down the rapids or any of that, but I see it as valid. Again, if it doesn't become the end in itself it is all up to that old thing we used to call conviction- the Holy Spirit will tell you it isn't something you should do. It isn't nerds vs. jocks, or the cultured, educated man vs the uneducated manual laborer. (I work in a factory, and that is because I chose to work with my hands after spending half my life working in the Mental Health field.) We are all part of the body- and scripture says no particular part is favored above the other. So embrace your inner wild man and push your boundaries a little bit! For some of us it isn't much or very daring, but it is enough to inspire the soul.

If you want to write a book about what you feel to be true, that's one thing, but when you bend, distort and flat out lie about what the Word of God says to back your belief, well then expect to be judged by God's Word.If that's the case this book is heretical at best.It seems like throughout this book the author is trying too hard to make up for some lack of machismo he thinks he needs.I actually watched one of the Wild at Heart Bootcamp sessions where John Eldredge makes fun of Mister Rogers and insinuates Fred Rogers is not a "real" man.So in this book and others authored by Eldredge, he sets out to show what a "real man" he is by climbing mountains, hunting bear, tracking elk, blah, blah, blah.....Like any good poker player knows, you always portray just the opposite of what you are.Read 'em and weep:)

I don't get the hype on this one at all. I'm glad so many loved it because it eases my conscience a little about having to give it such a poor review, but I just don't understand how there could be so many comments on social media about this being the best book people have read all year. I mean, people are going absolutely crazy over it!As usual with this publisher, the marketing and promotions were outstanding (I totally bought into all the initial excitement). The advance copy came belly-banded with a fictional newspaper article about the crime, which I thought was really fun. As far as the story goes, I'd expected something fast-paced, engaging and suspenseful, but feel like I got a slow-moving, go-nowhere book that wasn't even redeemed by the supposedly big twist at the end. The style is very generic (even for its genre), with pages of dialog that did nothing to further the story or give depth to any of the characters. The whole book just seemed like filler.I'm in the minority here so chalk this one up to personal preference, I guess.

Whoa! This was brilliant! This book right here is the reason that I love psychological thrillers. This has become an overly saturated genre with every one taking a stab at writing these twisty little thrillers but more often than not they fall flat. It takes a talented mind and writer to pull off a really shocking twist successfully. Alex Michaelides has done just that because I did not see that coming at all and for that I thank you! *claps hands*Alicia Berenson appears to have it all. She's a successful painter and her husband, Gabriel, is a famous fashion photographer. What would drive this seemingly happy woman to shoot her husband five times in the face only to never speak again? Psychotherapist, Theo Faber, is desperate to work with Alicia to see if he can breakthrough her silence to finally find out the truth. That's it. That's all you get. I don't want anyone to be spoiled. I suggest not reading too many reviews as it is inevitable that some jerk will spill the beans. Don't be that jerk!If this is any inclination as to the type of reading year 2019 is going to be then HURRAH! Dare I say that this has made it to my "favorites" shelf. Highest recommendation! All the twisted stars!Thank you to Celadon Books and Alex Michaelides for kindly sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

4.5 Stars, Spoiler-Free ReviewI decided to go into this novel with a clean slate, a blank canvas (no pun intended). I didn’t read any reviews because I didn’t want to see something that would give me any clues, either intentionally or unintentionally. When I know there’s a twist, or if I see hints of something, I usually figure out what’s going on. So I entered this story in the dark, curious to find what I would discover. This is definitely an experience. For me, the author’s words painted a vivid picture (again, no pun intended). The timeline of the story was a bit hazy at points because the main character, Theo, talks in the past tense, but about a more recent past and a time that seems undefined. I won’t mention anything that could spoil what happens. All I’ll say is that I had several theories, varying in their levels of crazy. When I got to the end, I wasn’t knocked off my chair surprised because I read a LOT of books in this genre, but I also can’t say that I completely saw it coming either. Instead, I found myself trying to retrace steps and get oriented. At some point I feel like I want to read the story again to truly put the rubik’s cube in order. At the end of the day, I think this novel has the potential to be one that is widely discussed, and may even become a motion picture. There’s an intentional murkiness (reminiscent of a movie like Memento) as the psychotherapist, Theo, embarks on a journey to find out why Alicia doesn’t speak, if she really killed her husband, if she’s insane, and/or the motive IF she did indeed kill Gabriel. It’s not a fast-paced tale in terms of really big happenings or scary moments; but for me, the short chapters went quickly and I was intrigued throughout because I wanted to know what happened and I liked the author’s writing style. I’d recommend it for those that enjoy this genre, and those that enjoy being part of the buzzed-about-books experience.

What makes Gone Girl and Sharp Objects more then just cheesy page turners is the quality of the writing. What makes The Silent Patient such a tacky slog is the consistently lazy, cliche-ridden, dumbed down prose. Who cares about a mystery when you have to trudge through page after page of sophomoric prose?

Could have been more character development. Everyone was just a little bit manic. Beginning was slow, ending felt rushed. Certainly not the must read everyone is making it out to be. Could have been better.

This is indeed the perfect thriller. Beautifully written, characters so real you feel like they're right there in the room with you. A truly surprise ending, but one that makes perfect sense. The word Perfect sums it up. This novel is flat-out perfect. Read it.

Alex Michaelides is an author to watch! This is his first novel, and it is a humdinger! It is a murder mystery, told from the point of view of a psychotherapist who switches jobs so he can try to help Alicia, the silent patient of the title. Alicia is accused of shooting her husband in the face 6 years ago, and hasn’t spoken since. The psychotherapist tries unsuccessfully to talk to Alicia, and then talks to her friends and family. Lots of issues arise during his “investigation.” He is also dealing with a cheating wife, which causes him lots of extra stress. Readers are also given a look into Alicia’s journal, in which we learn more about her life and background. The book is a fast-read, well-written, exciting, and offers a surprising ending that is clever and believable. What a wonderful story!!

This was a great book with a twist I never saw coming. It was a true page turner and a great Sunday read.

    From School Library Journal

Grade 3-8–Ming and his grandmother have a tradition of visiting the Wishing Tree each Lunar New Year. Their wishes are written on special paper, tied to an orange, and tossed up into the branches of the tree. Ming's grandmother cautions him to wish thoughtfully, and following her advice, he realizes the fulfillment of all of his wishes except for one very important one: that his grandmother recover from a grave illness. Many years pass before Ming returns to the tree. He comes to forgive it when a friend points out that it has granted the wish his grandmother had made for him every year–that he be happy. Now the paper he offers to the tree is not a wish but rather a note of thanks. Thong's narrative voice has a gentle and musical quality that will lure readers into the book's pages, as well as into the landscape of this lovely little corner of China. Children will see in fastidious detail the beautiful wishing paper with its Chinese symbols and English translations. The rendering of the people is also superb. The exquisite art is done on watercolor paper with acrylics, which results in an unusual and vivid effect. A template for wishing paper is included in the back of the book. The lessons and observations in The Wishing Tree are ageless, and the book offers many opportunities for discussion.–Corrina Austin, Locke's Public School, St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. PreS-Gr. 2. When Ming is five years old, his grandmother takes him to the Wishing Tree, where, like others in their Hong Kong village, they write wishes on pieces of paper weighted down by oranges and throw them into the branches of a giant banyan tree. Ming and Grandmother continue their annual visits to the tree until Grandmother grows ill. Bitter when his wish for Grandmother's recovery isn't granted, Ming avoids the tree until, years later, he returns to the village and acknowledges the happiness the tree brought. Although the simple, moving story is an excellent choice for Lunar New Year read-alouds and will work well to open class discussions about cultural traditions, it will also appeal throughout the year. Sentimental without being saccharine, it illustrates how traditions can help us voice our deepest wishes and emotions, and its vibrant acrylic paintings of the glorious tree abloom with wishes and fruit, which will show well to a crowd of young listeners, extend the tale's reassuring sense of hope. An author's note describes the true events that inspired the story. Gillian EngbergCopyright © American Library Association. All rights reserved

I absolutely love that this story is based upon a real Banyan "Wishing Tree" in a small village called Lam Tsuen in Hong Kong, and that there are other smaller ones among Hong Kong's countryside. As if the story wasn't beautiful enough, the author took a lot of time explaining about wishing trees and how they are either banyan or camphor trees because these kinds of trees because they have aerial roots that curve & twist into unsual shapes that seem to look magical! She then goes on to tell her reader tells us that people come all though out the year to toss their wishes onto the wishing trees branches, but the majority of the people come during their Lunar New Year. She also speaks of the Ng Bo Dip which means "5 Treasures Piles" in Cantonese that the wishes are written. The brightly colored red & gold papers are then tied to a Mandarin Orange and thrown high into the branches of the wishing tree. I bet it's a beautiful sight! The author also includes a directions on how to make your very own Ng Bo Dip and also includes a black & white copy for the reader to photocopy, color and cut out!A definate treasure to have in your home library!

Good children's book as part of classroom lesson on Chinese New Year, students can use some of their predicting, visualization, and inferring skills.

The boy Ming is disappointed in the wishing tree introduced to him by his grandmother when the tree fails to give him his wish that his aged grandmother survive her illness. But after a time when he does not go to it anymore, he comes near it again when a group of friends invite him to go with them. In talking with his friends and a nearby vendor, Ming realizes that the tree granted his grandmother's greatest wish for him--that he be happy. The simple tale is based on a real tree in a village in Hong Kong. The author Thong with bright pictures by McLennan describe how the Chinese write their wishes on pieces of paper, and toss these into the branches of the tree. Following the tale, the author gives directions on how young readers can follow this practice for themselves with their own wishing tree.
