I enjoy reading this book because it made it very clear that all religions come from same source and their teachings( the Golden Rule)were explained according to the capacities and understanding of the humanity of that time. Also reminding us that we have to love each other and live in peace with others. All and all this book makes sense and I highly recommend others to read it too.

"Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah" are words of deep wisdom from one of the messengers sent by God to enlighten humankind (in the line of Buddha, Christ, Muhammad, etc.). Or so the Bahai's, of which I am one, believe. Even if you're not a believer in Baha'u'llah's status as a messenger from God, you can't argue with a lot of his words, which still resonate today as much as they did in the 19th-century Middle East. He calls for kindness, peace, and universal brotherhood/sisterhood. These are noble ideals for people of every religious persuasion.

From an era of vision casting in the church this work is very thorough in the topics covered yet at the same time gets bogged down in details. It is not a text book that reads like one. It seems out of place in the simple church concepts that church leadership is seeking in this era of 2017. It is amazing how much has changed in such a short time. "Simple Church" by Geiger and Rainer on the otherhand has continued to be relevant in the quest to be pleasing stewards of God's provision of the church. Just over halfway through Unique I started flipping through the pages. It wore me out. There are some very helpful portions but for me they came early on.

This book offers some helpful guidance for developing a vision that leads to action rather than just looking good on paper. It lays out the groundwork for establishing the foundation for the vision and giving it a frame within which to develop. There are some good tips for communicating the vision as well. There is a lot of information here, and the process can seem complicated, so reading it slowly and/or more than once can help one digest the information better.

There are a lot of books around on formulating mission, vision and strategy, so it is rare to find one which has something new to say on the subject. Will Mancini's book succeeds in bringing a fresh and very useful perspective to the subject. He says that churches commonly neglect what makes them unique, instead gravitating towards adopting programs and mindsets that work elsewhere. A church can become truly effective only once it discovers its own uniqueness.In my view the author's critiques of other people's strategic planning models (such as Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Church model) are a little overdone, but the book comes into its own when it starts talking about clarifying the vision. The process starts with discovering your Kingdom Concept, which is found at the intersection between your Local Predicament (the unique needs and opportunities of the location in which God has placed you), your Collective Potential (the unique resources and capabilities found in your congregation), and your Apostolic Esprit (the particular focus which most energises your leadership).One of the imperatives of clarifying the church's vision is "framing" it. The Vision Proper is framed by the church's Mission (statement of purpose), Values (shared convictions that guide the actions of the church), Strategy (process which the church uses to accomplish its mission) and Measures (things which are measured to determine how well the church is achieving its mission). While none of these individual components is new, the manner in which the book suggests working through them is both innovative and very helpful. I highly recommend this book for church leaders.

This is one of the better church growth, missional books I have read recently. This book seems to blend the ideas of positive church growth concepts with the missional focus of the church. The book has some great ideas for congregational direction and mission. One concept was "too many goals threatens to make anyone one goal unclear." This seems to be the case in too many congregations. In years past, the idea for church growth was to added program onto program, and some churches followed this method. The problem was that the churches that were promoting this were already large churches. A two hundred size congregation does not have the resources or the manpower to accomplish this model for ministry. Instead of having bunch of goals, focus on one. The book talks about this need for excellence in one area.Another wonderful section was concerning the history of church growth to missional. This was clear and highly helpful. I could go on about all the wisdom in this text, but really there is too much. On my Kindle I take notes, and so far this book has the most notes. There are great illustrations, clear information, and deep quotes. This book is definitely worth your time in improving and moving your congregation ahead on the mission of God. Here is one great quote, "If you want to build a ship, don't drum up men to gather wood, divide the word, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea." This book teaches how to do this.

Strategic planning was the preferred way forward for many churches over the last several decades, but Mancini argues it produced marginal results at best. In contrast to that well known model, Church Unique offers an alternative framework that is a better fit for the rapidly changing environment of early twenty-first century congregations. More specifically, the book's stated purpose is "to challenge you to find your Church Unique: that is, to live a vision that creates a stunningly unique, movement-oriented church" (p.xxii).The book is divided into four main parts each containing multiple chapters designed to walk would be visionaries through a very detailed process:Recasting VisionClarifying VisionArticulating VisionAdvancing VisionMancini tells stories of Auxano's work with well multiple well know clients including Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, TX (Max Lucado, pastor) and Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, TX (Chuck Swindoll, pastor) and with churches that lack a national profile. Church Unique provides a pathway that can be effectively utilized by churches of all sizes and with any denominational affiliation (including those who have no affiliation at all) because it seeks to help churches understand their past, acknowledge their present, and leverage both in service of becoming that which only they can be in the future.

This book gives me the handles that I need to lead our church in the direction of momentum and traction. I can't wait to put into place and practice the principles laid out in this book. I recommend it for every church leader.

Elizabeth Levy was born on April 4, 1942, in Buffalo, N.Y. She earned a B.A. (magna cum laude) from Brown University, and a M.A.T. from Columbia University. Before writing full-time, she worked as an editor and researcher in a news department at American Broadcasting Co. and was an assistant editor at a publishing company. Her books cover a wide range of reading levels and subject matter. While Levy obviously writes her books to instruct children, she also says she writes on subjects in which she is greatly interested. Levy is a member of the Authors Guild, Authors League of America, Writers of America, and PEN.Joan Holub has authored and/or illustrated more than 130 children's books. Every graduating college student should have. Obviously missing knowledge in most young adults.

This book has a lot of information on the Constitution and other parts of our early government. It is easy to read as it is written in question format and you can read one question and answer at a time and you don't have to read the book in page number order to find out information.

This book is well-written and extremely informative. It's a good book for anyone (of any age) who wants to understand the Constitution better, and how the Constitution came into being. I bought it because I am using it as an elementary school teacher, but it really is a great topic for all of us to better understand.

I bought this used. It is in great condition. No missing pages, no tears. A name was in the front cover, but not a big deal.The book is organized well, and is easy to read an understand. I will buy more books from this series.

Teaches your kid history in a way they can understand it, but without being boring. We have several books of this series.

An excellent book for the little ones to read or be read to on September 16 - Constitution Day. Very important that young 'uns get tit before they go to school because for the most part, they won't get it there.

This book was my initial choice, but after reading some of the horrible reviews, I looked extensively at the other free selections offered: rape and perversion in one ; a depressing "Happy" title; terrible language; liberal blah, blah, blah; and a fantastic fantasy made me go back to this one again. Expecting nothing, I was totally sho c ked to find the book actually engaged my interest. Perhaps the awful reviews prepared me for some of the stuff that bothered them so much; but I didn't find it so terribly difficult to connect the dots. Makes me wonder at the intelligence of the reviewers. I think the translator was given way too hard a sentence by the negative reviews also. So--expecting absolutely nothing--I was actually quite surprised to NOT be turned off by the initial 'scenery' description...nor bored to tears. Instead I was eager to keep reading and stayed interested to the end, a true "whodunit?" book. I would have only given it 4 stars if there hadn't been so many downers; but want to counteract some the naysayers.

Time Heals No Wounds is a nice European procedural crime mystery. Without getting into any specifics that would spoil the story, I have to say that this has some interesting twists and plot points that differ from most murder mysteries that I have read. It really added to my enjoyment of the novel, because I didn't feel like I was reading the same old story over again with just the details changed.The story started out with a couple of minor translation grammar mistakes that concerned me the entire book would poorly translated. Luckily that was not the case. The dialogue is a little choppier and less polished than I am used to reading, but probably has a lot to do with being originally written in German. The characters and story were intriguing enough that after a few chapters, I didn't even notice the dialogue anymore.The characters are nicely developed and feel fully dimensional rather than just being archetypes. There are just enough players to offer a wide variety of secondary story lines and vignettes, but not so many that you can't keep track of who is who. Once I started reading, I didn't want to put it down. This one will be a great summer read.

I lived in Germany for three years from 1956 to late 1959 and evidence of WW II was still quite evident so I have always been drawn to stories about the war and the Nazis. This complex murder mystery looks at collaboration by German industry and it's impact on current generations. Rather than examining neo-Nazi groups, the author speaks through anti Nazi/ neo-Nazi activists. Purely as a mystery, it's wonderfully conceived and executed. Normally, I've figured out the plot and perpetrator long before the end but not in this book. I added this to my "collection" of "Authors to Buy."

As others have commented I have also had a difficult time choosing a Kindle First selection for the past few months. This was the only one even slightly appealing to me, and I am definitely not into stories relating to the war. Although I knew going into it that this wasn't really a war story, I also knew it was somehow tied to the Third Reich - also not something I read for entertainment.However, that being said, I was actually pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed the book. It was certainly different than anything I've read heretofore, and it was interesting to discover the connection between a dead body, a missing person, and the Holocaust.Fritz is a soon to be retired detective, and he is NOT thrilled to be saddled with breaking in a newbie (Hannes) at this stage in his career. However, as it turns out both develop their own resources to help solve the mysteries, and they seem to work well together. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop.I also agree with some reviewers who couldn't overlook some of the unbelievable parts of the story - spec. not having ANY idea what a tattoo of numbers on the forearm might suggest. Seriously? That was too obvious NOT to suspect! Even if the tattoo had nothing to do with the Holocaust, that would have been my first expectation. If I was wrong, I was wrong. But that is certainly the first place my mind would have gone anyway.Merlin was definitely an interesting character, but so was Ben. And although there were several characters and settings, it was not at all difficult to keep track of everyone / everything in the story. Some things were more obvious than others, but there were also a couple of twists that I had not anticipated. And while I had figured out the mystery before it was revealed, it was not until almost the end that I was fairly certain "whodunit".Again, there have certainly been slim pickins of late in the Kindle First line up, but I was strangely pleased with this choice. Much more so than last month. I am certainly glad I read this book.
