these golden books are good because they are based on the cartoon stories. I first allowed my child to watch the movies but then was advised the kids shouldn't touch any ipad or tablet products, so i just lied to my child the ipad is dead and start giving her these books to read. She actually enjoys it even she doesn't understand English at all. We are Asian and speak foreign language at home and the kid is just 2.5 yr old before going day care. i will buy a lot more of these books for my kid

Book came on time and as described. The book itself was a little too long for a 1 1/2 year old toddler. I could not keep her attention, I got it for her before she watched the Zootopia movie. She liked looking at the animals and the colors but got bored after a minute. I'll keep the book for now and try to bring it back out for story time in another 6months or so.

Whats not to love about these books. I bought this for my 2 year old daughter and can't wait to read these to her. I remember these books when I was little. I wish I still had these books from when i was a little girl as it would be awesome to show my daughter look mommy had these books at your age too.Great price and great quality.

Purchased as a "card" for a baby shower and wrote a message in the cover. Absolutely adorable. Great summary story of the movie. Great addition to the little golden books

I read this to my 5-year-old before going to see the movie in hopes that it would prepare her. While it does give the basic story it glosses over some (not all) of the scarier parts, so there were some moments in the movie theater where we were caught off guard. I find that this is typical of Little Golden Book adaptations so it was not a shock. My daughter still requests this story multiple time a week and based on that alone I'd say this is definitely worth buying.

It's ok, but there are certain points in the book that unnecessarily don't match up to the movie. Still a good and easy read for kids.

Review:Phil Jackson has proven with his previous books that he is as skilled a writer as he is a basketball coach, and he shows it again with "Eleven Rings." This book is mostly a recap of his coaching stints with both the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. He talks about what he had to do to take these teams that were loaded with talent and make them blend together into a cohesive team in order to win all those championships.There are some aspects of leadership that books about business leadership use. However, Jackson will put a unique spin on how he might use this model, so that it becomes clear that he is not doing this from a manual, but instead putting his own perspective and methods into the work he does with his teams. One of these is that he often refers to his teams as a "tribe" and each member of the tribe will know what his role is in order for the goals to be achieved.What I liked best about Jackson's sharing of his coaching secrets was how he treated different individuals differently. He realized that one method will not work for everyone, and because his teams had so many superstars with egos to match their talent, he worked on each individual in methods to which the certain player would most respond positively.Jackson described how he did this with his superstar players on each team - Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman on the Bulls, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal on the Lakers. I thought the best example of this was how Jackson handled a situation with Pippen during the 1994 playoffs, when the Bulls were playing without Jordan who had gone into his first retirement.Pippen was supposed to inbound a pass to Toni Kukoc for a last second shot in a playoff game against the New York Knicks. Pippen was not happy to have this role for the play and refused to leave the bench after a time out. Jackson made a quick substitution for Pippen. Kukoc made the shot, the Bulls won the game, and the coaching staff decided on what to do about Pippen. After one assistant coach told Pippen it was a bad move (in much saltier language), the team said the Lord's Prayer, Pippen apologized to his teammates with tears in his eyes, and everyone got a turn to state how they felt. That doesn't sound like much when a team leader says no to the coach in such a crucial time, but because Jackson knew that this type of action would affect Pippen greater than a fine or suspension, that is what Jackson did.It is stories like this, the manner in which Jackson treats his player and most importantly, how he articulates this in the book is why I believe this is a book that would be enjoyed by readers of all types, whether or not they are sports fans. The personal stories in this book are refreshing, not judgmental, and a source of great information on some of the biggest names in basketball history. Excellent book.Did I skim?NoDid I learn something new?Yes. While I did know of some of the more well-publicized events of Jackson's teams, such as how he handled Scottie Pippen's meltdown in the 1994 playoffs or when the Lakers didn't immediately offer him new contracts, the manner in which Jackson handled these situations was telling. These passages delved much deeper than what was told in the media. The best of these was how he handled Scottie Pippen's situation, which is detailed in the review.Pace of the book:Very good. It moved along nicely and stayed in chronological order, which is something I appreciate.Positives:The manner in which Jackson describes how he handled many of his players, especially his best players such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal was the strength of this book. I also liked that it stuck mostly with basketball-related issues. Jackson certainly did talk about literature, spiritual life and other such topics, but instead of full chapters devoted to these topics, he mentioned them as they related to his teams and/or coaching.Negatives:At times, I found Jackson to come across as condescending toward other teams, players and coaches that may not have achieved the same level of success as he has achieved. That has been a consistent characteristic mentioned by Jackson's distracters over the years, and it seems to show in this book. Not enough to be blatant or libelous but it does appear nonetheless. I also found a few typos and spelling errors, especially of some opponents' names.Do I recommend?Yes, especially for basketball fans. However, I think that fans of other sports and even some readers who may not be sports fans, but want to see how successful leaders build teams would like this book.

As a mom who spent 12+ years watching my daughter play volleyball, basketball, and throw discus/shot put, I have seen my share of coaching styles. Some were awesome, some should have been fired, one was fired. Throughout it all, I always knew it could be more humane and motivating without the degrading, intimidating, and negative approach many coaches used. I always loved watching Phil Jackson coach the Bulls and read some about his coaching style at the time. But his book has great information that can be applied to any job, including parenting. Clearly, championships can be won while coaching a team respectfully and influencing them not just as a player, but as a human being. Every coach, teacher, camp counselor, parent would learn from this book. All athletes/children of those who do, will benefit greatly. I bought it for my Kindle, but just bought it in hardback too, as I want to highlight some parts and get all the book referrals he includes.

I've been a leader all my life but I've never made a study of leadership. 11 Rings is my first foray into becoming a student of leadership. What a wonderful read!If I were reading this as a paperback or hardback, it'd be totally dog-eared. Instead, almost every chapter is about 50% highlighted.It was thrilling to relive experiences that I'd watched as a fan of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. But, I was most intrigued by the intricacies of motivating and unifying such outsized personalities. My kindle edition is FILLED with ideas that I can implement in my own work as a pastor.I highly recommend this book. It's a compelling read. It's fascinating to relive moments you've lived through as a fan of the game. But it's equally as compelling for the practical ways that it reveals for working with, supporting and getting the best from a variety of different personalities that show up in every organization.

Let me start by saying I am a huge basketball fan and hate the Lakers with every fiber of my being (I'm a Sixers fan). That said, this book gave me a lot more respect for Phil, Kobe and some other Lakers. I'll get my only downside of the book out of the way quickly, Phil Jackson makes a lot of excuses for his losses, but his wins are always the work of him or his team. For instance, whenever talking about something other than a championship win, he's blaming the ref's or saying a team won, though through now spectacular play of their own. I can't blame him too much because I'd imagine you have to be pretty ridiculously competitive in that profession, which will make it very difficult to admit when you're bested.The reason I titled the review what I did, was because this isn't just purely basketball, and it's not even just 50/50 basketball/spiritualism. It's got basketball, it's got spiritualism, it's got philosophy, and more. I was never big on the zen or meditation stuff, and still am not, but he makes a lot of it sound a lot more practical and helpful than I've read/heard before.It takes you behind the scenes for mostly all of his championship teams, and early on when he played for the Knicks and ends after his last year as the coach of the Lakers. You get his thoughts on the similarities and differences between Jordan and Kobe, some of the reasons behind the Kobe/Shaq feud, and what brought the teams of individuals together to be a championship caliber team. If you love the sport, you'll love this book.

Great book to read, Phil talks about each championship season in detail from beginning to end. Gives you a different perspective on what it takes to win a championship in the sports world. Also talks about some of his secrets to staying focused. If you are a basketball fan you will enjoy reading this book. Phil also includes a lot of information on how Michael Jordan, Shaq and Kobe use to practice and how he matured after each season. You will find some grammatical errors but nothing that should take you away from the enjoyment of the book.

I'm trying to alternate between fun audiobooks and ones that I feel I should read rather than having any desire to do so. Plato's Republic was in that second group. I honestly expected to hate it. But it's one of the fundamental classics. So on the list it goes to listen to while I commute. And I loved it. It may have been that it was a full cast audio but it honestly did feel like being with a group. Maybe a quarter of the way in I realized what it reminded me of: when you are at a very mellow party in college and people start discussing things that are really "deep, man." And there's that one person who is way too into it and dominates the conversation. So that tickled me most of the book. The other thing that was really engaging was how much of the ideas in this book can be seen in the modern world. In that way it made it feel like an anthropological study and it kept making me say, "neat," even when I disagreed with whatever point was being made. Overall I would recommend this audiobook version because it made it come alive.

Whew, that was an intense read! I gave five stars because after careful consideration I realized that Alan Blooms interpretive essay really helped me to understand the The Republic to a different degree. The first ten books are the shoes, the interpretive essay is the shoe lace and it ties all of it up very neatly. To read something over 2,000 years old that’s been translated from Ancient Greek is a task in itself, I commend this translations interpreter he did a stellar job. This book is Heavy and not a book you can just pick up and expect to read in a weekend, its not littered with images that create a perfect picture for you to burn thru, it’s page after page after page of thought, so it slows you down, a lot. Each page forces you to think about what you’re reading, sometimes you have ZERO Idea and that’s ok, that’s where Bloom’s Interpretive Essay comes in. To pick up this book and commit to finishing it is a Challenge I highly recommend, you’ll walk away a better person with a sense of accomplishment and more thoughtful mind. I’ve read over 200 books and I think it’s safe to say that this was the most challenging book I’ve ever put my mind too, if your looking for a challenge then you’ve found it. Happy reading 📖

Socrates believed: “by curing people of the hubris of thinking they know when they do not…makes them happier and more virtuous than anything else.”Socrates and his friends pursue this journey by defining the ideal city – Kallipolis—and its rulers and constitution, the idea being that truth is often easier to discern on a large scale (i.e. a city) that can then be applied on a smaller scale (i.e. the individual).The debate focuses on the four virtues of an ideal city—wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice. And results in the conclusion that the human soul is made up of three parts—the appetitive, spirited, and rational—and that virtue, ultimately proven to be the source of happiness exists when the three are in balance and harmony.Socrates ultimately defines five political/economic models—philosopher/king, timocracy, oligopoly, democracy, and tyranny. And he ranks them, from good to bad, in the order listed, essentially arguing that they form an inverse ladder in which one inevitably deteriorates into the latter.That means, in essence, that oligopoly inevitably deteriorates into democracy, which he clearly doesn’t not hold in very high esteem. Freedom, by his logic, is unsustainable. In the simplest terms, the unfettered pursuit of freedom by everyone ultimately leads to conflict and that, in turn, inevitably leads to a race for power defined by manipulation, deception, and injustice.As a result, democracy inevitably leads to tyranny as the ruling class preys—quite deceitfully—on the fears of the masses that they, the masses, are being sidelined and their interests ignored. People are sure of what they know and don’t want to know anything else. The thirst for victory has, as a result, crushed the thirst for knowledge.There are many reasons for this. Elenctic takes time and our collective attention spans have dwindled to near nothing. Education, I believe Plato would say, however, is probably the real culprit. Oppression, sheltering, and victimization have replaced Plato’s definition of the ideal education: physical training, musical training (including prose and speech), mathematics, and dialectic.On the surface, critics will find no shortage of targets in the logic. More than anything else, however, both the argument and any criticism that might be drawn, reflect the imprecision of language itself and the difficultly this presents for philosophers willing to tackle the biggest and most relevant issues of life.That, however, simply reinforces Plato’s encouragement to ask more questions, listen more attentively with an open mind, and never assume you know the real answer. Which is why his ultimate encouragement it seems to me is not to admire things that are beautiful or just, but to truly understand what beauty and justice are. Sadly, I can think of no leader today who is doing anything even remotely close to that.Read it. It will make you a better leader, citizen, parent, friend, and person.

Plato’s Republic (Greek: Πολιτεία, Politeia; Latin: Res Publica) was written in 380 BC and this version was translated by Benjamin Jowett in 1871. It is a fiction book in the format of a discussion between Socrates and others. It aims to debate and conclusively determine the meaning of Justice. Socrates, the main character, was a Greek philosopher and the mentor of Plato. His philosophy is the basis and origin of the western philosophy. As a high schooler who often debates similar ideals and questions, I found this book to be very eye-opening and fascinating. Socrates doctrine proves itself true even in this day in age. That just goes to show, when it comes to ideals and behavior, humans haven’t changed very much. Republic is very well written and even after thousands of years it still captures its audience with its provoking revelations and relatable content. If you often find yourself debating similar questions then you might just find your answers here, but if you dislike philosophy or are set in your ways you probably will not find this book to be interesting. For me, this book was an enjoyable challenge and I definitely would read it again.

This Kindle edition is not as advertised and entirely useless. First and foremost, it is absolutely not an annotated edition; there is not a single note anywhere in the text. For that matter, there are no Stephanus numbers—the universal page numbers for all editions of Plato—so you will never be able to either cite this edition or find anything referred to by other writers. I'm not even sure that this is the Reeves/Grube translation, as there is no publication information whatsoever. Avoid this like the Athenian plague.

This is an anti Ukraine travel guide. Supposedly only 4 yrs old, but probably written much longer ago. The book strongly discourages travel in the Ukraine. Not worthy of the Lonely Planet series.ask me again in July after my trip. Perhaps then I will agree with them, but I doubt it.

This was an excellent collection of information about a part of the world that is not well known in the west. I would firmly recommend this.

There are too many areas of the country that are inadequately covered. It really isn't much of a guide book at all. After visiting the western part of the country, I found that there was either very limited mention of most of the sites we visited (and wanted more information on) or none at all. The maps are totally inadequate. The bit of Ukrainian language was helpful, though, for very few people speak English, except at the better hotels. I was disappointed in the book and wish I would have chosen something else.

It had the necessary information for our travels. Gave good descriptions of the highlights of various regions in the country. Good travel tips. Did not use for lodging.

My teacher daughter loves it and used it to travel to Ukraine.

Specifactions cover such high-profile vehicles as the F-117 Nighthawk stealth bomber, the F-18 Hornet, Ohio-class nuclear sub, M1 main battle tank, and the Paladin self-propelled howitzer to the weapons they carry--like the Maverick air-to-surface missile and torpedoes--to the lighter but lethal small arms our ground troops rely on in melee, like the M16, M24 sniper rifle, and the M9 9mm pistol. This is almost certainly the most complete guide to American weapons currently available, and the price is unbeatable. Recommended to all military buffs or anyone who wants to know more about the tools our men and women in uniform rely on in the thick of battle.

It was all over in the news when the Afghanistan war was under way. If you read this nice booklet you will find that is not very new and actually an old bomb, already used in the Vietnam War. At that time it was used to create chopper-landing sites. The bomb leveled all the trees something that was other wise a dangerous and laborous job for the troops on the ground. I could find in the book all kinds of nice facts about all those other "CNN" weapon systems, the Predator drone, Hellfire missiles, Stinger rocket, M16 machine guns, and many more I never hearth off.This book is certainly good value for money. But it is not perfect, because it contains no index or detailed contents, how weird!

This is true.After reading through this, though, I think it is also worth noting that it is not particularly well written. So far as I can tell, the facts are accurate; however, it is written in a very elementary style (basic grammar, awkward sentence structure, high in jargon, low in descriptors, etc). This could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it.Just thought I'd mention it.

I have read numerous books on modern weaponry and modern warfare, but this one still managed to provide plenty of information to fill my knowledge gaps. It is a very comprehensive compilation of american weapons, from ballistic missiles to pistols, from supersonic jet fighters to humvees. This wonderful illustrated directory should give you plenty of "munitions" to talk like a weapons expert!

This book is a huge disappointment. Bought it based on other reviews and recos from trading forums. To start with, the author's writing style is so 1950s that it hurts. The charts (what few ones there are) have handwritten notes. Most of the trading advice consists of trading 101 cliches such as "let your winners run and cut your losses short". To be fair, when this was written, trading commodities was not a widely undertaken endeavour by non-professional traders so perhaps that can be forgiven.A glaring error repeated throughout the book occurs when the author suggests that by earning 30% per month, which presumably his book will help you do (hah!), it is possible to earn 360% per year. Perhaps compound interest (along with electricity and the automobile) had not yet been discovered as of the publication date, but a 30% return each month compounds to an annual return of 2,330%...! Such innumeracy is quite frankly astounding for the author of a book on finance. The very best hedge fund managers, who manage billions in investor capital, are lucky to return 30% per year. This guy is a joke.The author repeats again and again that the best way to invest is in a "special situation" which may only occur once a month. Besides never bothering to explain exactly what this "special situation" is, despite constantly alluding to them, he also never tells you how to find one.Bottom line, terrible book, terrible writing style. Don't be a sucker, if the title sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

As I always want to apply the rule "keep it simple stupid" for my trading, this book is the best I ever read and this is really, simply, and practically help me making my trading decision and building my trading system. I now start making money using this techniques and follow his rules, I get more and more confident in trading.. But I dont know for those who wants complexities.I adore this book and personally offer highly respect and thanks toMr R C Allen for his genuine and valuable contribution to trading.

Not a very well known book in the business. Simply becuase people don't want others to know. This book is full of excellent advice and suggestion in the commodities market. It provides all the necessary information to start trading. It is totally unnecessary in knowing all the complicated theories that are out there in other books that take up hundreds of pages to explain, simply to prove that the prices either go up or down. Not everyone can be a trader but this book provides all, if you are the right person.
