The authors expand on the game by allowing each animal to respond with an alibi of sorts. For example, Beaver replies, "Who, me?/Couldn't be!/My favorite snack/Is sticks in a stack." Children will enjoy the challenge of solving the mystery and astute observers will notice the clues provided on the front cover and title page. In the happy ending, the culprit Ants invite all of the animals to share Skunk's cookies, and the baker himself doesn't seem to mind. This book includes instructions to play the circle game, and the music and guitar chords necessary to sing the song. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful! I love the details and clues they give you along the way as to who will be accused next. I gave this book 4 starts instead of one because of how repetitive it is... it’s boring for Mom to read but my boys of course love it! To me it’s a little redundant.

Read this to my PreSchool library class one day, then we went and "accused" other teachers in the building of stealing cookies. They loved the book, and the game. HIGHLY recommend this one!!

This is one of my favorites. I have great memories as a child, singing this song. I wanted to introduce it to my son so we checked it out at the library. After renewing it 3 times we had to buy it. My son was 2 and had just started talking and he would try to sing along with the book. I even found him one day "reading" the book in his room and trying to sing along. He loved it and still does at almost 4. It is always a bed time favorite for our family.

My autistic 3 year old son loved this book. They were reading it in his preschool class, so we purchase it ahead of time to get him used to the book (this helps him be more engaged in the classroom when they read it).This is one of those great books that has a good rhythm when reading, it makes it easy to pause at the animal's name and wait for the child to say it! He learned all the animals in no time!

Children love the repetition and rhyme of the story line! They will probably chant "Who took the cookies from the cookie jar? Who me? Couldn't. be!" Highly recommend it!

Great update and illustrations. But why we have to be so politically correct and change the original title with the word "stole" to "took", I will never understand-it's just DUMB.;NEVER had a problem with the older version with any child of any age!!

Aime and Andria have done it again. I've been waiting since September for the release of this new title and Sewing School Fashion Design scores big and was well worth the wait. It has wonderful clear and concise instructions with step by step photographs of each project. This book is a great introduction for young fashionistas who wish to build on their sewing skills and get into garment sewing. They have taken three basic foundation garments ( top, skirt, and shorts) and provided multiple options that create a variety of different garments that are only limited to the sewer's imagination. The authors provide eleven lessons that take you through basic fashion design rules, measuring, hemming, and even some basic fitting. Students can then take these foundation skills to create 11 different design options that turn 3 ordinary garments to the extraordinary such as creating a hoodie from the TurnStyle Top. The book is full of skill building tips, fashion vocabulary, and fashion templates where students can create their own unique designs. It also includes three extra projects that make wonderful accessories to go with the garments or as a stand alone item. There are full sized patterns included that are easily traceable and can be reused over and over. This book is a great way to teach kids to sew with simple beginner garment projects. There are even a few tips for doing a DIY fashion show where your fashionistas can show off their designs in a fun and delightful way. This book is a great curriculum for sewing programs or if it is just you and your child. I can't wait to make up samples of the projects that I know my students will definately be excited to start sewing up a storm!!

This book is a great entry point for a young person interested in fashion, design and/or DIY. With a variety of simple projects, clear directions and ideas for how to alter clothing, the authors have provided ample inspiration for young people to show their own style. I have all of Patti's cookbooks and each is wonderful in its own unique way! And, this one is a great addition to the collection. None of the recipes are too complicated and seem to be very simple to prepare. And, alongside the recipes there are a number of great stories from Patti about the history of the recipe, why she chose it, etc. Great book!

This is far from my favorite Marsh mystery. Alleyn is Alleyn, and Fox (long overdue for promotion, surely) is along for the ride; but Troy makes no appearance. The setting is theatrical inasmuch as virtually all the characters are either "in" theater or attendants of those who are "in" theater. They behave very much like theatrical types from other Marsh novels. Apart from a short appendix, the novel covers a single day: it begins with the victim awaking on her (last) birthday and ends when Alleyn sends everybody home to bed after solving the mystery and explaining it to the former suspects. I found it hard to like the cast of characters--the ingenue's regarding them all with love was incomprehensible. The author didn't see much value in the victim's point of view (what her friends and associates were doing behind her back in her home on her birthday would have irritated most people). More balance would have made a better novel. But even a fair Marsh mystery is enjoyable.

None of the books by Ngaio Marsh that I have so far read would I rate as less than four stars. This one is quite the ride. Marsh's plots were always very well constructed; she sat down and thought through a way to present the murder as one no one could possibly have committed. In this book, even the victim couldn't have done it to herself. There's just that pesky dead body to prove that someone did.Roderick Alleyn is as always suave and debonair, and Inspector Fox is adorably himself. The obligatory pair of young lovers are well-drawn and exceedingly well integrated into the plot.If you like Marsh, you'll like this book.

Ngiao Marsh with her association with the theater has written a mystery that could easily be a play. All of the action takes place during one day and centers on two locations, a wealthy home and the neighboring book store. As in several works by Marsh the characters are actors, playwrights, and those they are close to.The story begins with an actress who on her 50th birthday imagines the grandeur of her own funeral. As the day progresses she flies into a rage at her theatrical associates at one perceived slight after another. The tension builds as the day goes on to the climatic moment, her birthday party. This being a mystery someone dies. Enter the detective who must unravel from all the half truths and secrets the who and the why. The novel is constructed like a clockwork providing enough information that the reader can unravel the puzzle if only she or he is looking in the right direction. Like a great magic trick.An intelligent and well written brain teaser, and a satisfying read.

What I like about Marsh books is that she usually paints us a picture of several characters before presenting the murder. In this book, this is particularly well done. One can see what is coming but it's like watching a head on collision, you can see what is going to happen but you know there is no way it can be stopped. This is rather a touching story in some ways and very enjoyable. I can't say I was surprised at WHO DONE IT as there is a small clue in the first part of the book but I still enjoyed very much the unwinding of the story. Marsh tends to let her detective be too long winded in his explanations but that's o.k.

This is Marsh at her best, describing the world and the people of the theater. Her character development always does ring true, but especially here, and especially in the case of the victim. If you love the grand dames of British mystery, you will want this one. If you have never read a Ngaio Marsh, you could not start with a better one than this.
