I picked up the Kindle version of this guide before a 2 week trip to Munich. It was quite useful in planning day trips and learning some more background, culture and history. Lonely Planet are up to their usual high standards.I missed the ability to flip through the book and found maps harder to use on the Kindle, despite the weight I think the print version would have been a better choice.
It's very rare for me to return books but I felt this guide was wholly inadequate. The sample itineraries were few and not varied enough considering the broad audience Lonely Planet has. Also the information for first-time travelers to Germany was pretty basic -- could have been talking about any Western European country. But I guess what ultimately killed it for me was the Kindle version rendered so poorly on the Kindle app and also on the browser reader that ultimately I just ordered another guide book and returned this one.
A personal must have for scouting out a country/city before travel. Sure internet information if more timely but I like the feel of a book in my hand and the reminder of trips past looking at the spines of the book on my travel shelf.
Heard lots of good reviews about Lonely Planet series. My first try. Lots of information and very comprehensive. But not good for my needs. I'd prefer guides to be more selective, with color photos, drawings, and maps. DK Eyewitness Travel Guide series remains my favorite.
Good guide, but I'm thinking it might be a bit on the high priced side for what you get, since almost everything can be found online and there are cheaper guides out there.
It was not as good as the above guide that I purchased. It took some of the pages with me though when I went to Germany last week.
Like all the rest of the travel guides
Very useful for first time traveler to Germany. Has a lot of maps and travel tips. We looked at multiple books but this was the one we referred to the most. It has a lot of information but is compact enough to carry with you.
