My daughter is 5 and has had severe anxiety, particularly related to separating from me. We've seen experts since she was 2.5 as the anxiety was so bad it was affecting her sleep. She'd wake hourly (and scream, panicked) to make sure I was still next to her. My daughter is visually impaired and has sensory processing issues. She was legally blind for the first couple of years of her life and relied on me for navigation and to feel comfortable in the world (with her separate sensory issues). Not an easy case. We had kindergarten assessments coming up and a mom I met whose daughter also suffers from anxiety recommended this book. It's helped us far more than any therapist/doctor/child educator we spoke with and it helped us within weeks. Seriously, my daughter has NEVER gone to a friend's house alone, or to a class alone (save for preschool - but I went with her for months while we desensitized her to it) or even let me go to the bathroom alone at good friends' homes. Yet last weekend she went and did two kindergarten assessments with new teachers and new kids in new places WITHOUT ME for over an hour each time and she came out BEAMING! In our case my daughter was scared I'd "disappear" and I really needed to see this from her perspective. Instead of saying there was no need to worry about that, I loved her, of course I'd be back, I really thought about it and realized if I thought she might disappear if she went to a particular place, of course I'd NEVER let her go. I'd be terrified just like she is! I conveyed this to her and told her Daddy wouldn't let me go places if I thought I might disappear, my parents wouldn't, my friends wouldn't. Also to really test the matter, for a whole week, I tried disappearing with her assistance, using magic words, etc. It never worked. So I suggested even though she worries I might, maybe she doesn't need to believe those worries.I also pretended I was very worried she might leave me and go to the North Pole. Dr Cohen teaches you to empower the child and to make it fun. And we practiced being a little bit scared so she learned that just because you might feel a little unnerved it doesn't mean everything is going to get worse. This is keeping your child at their edge.I feel like no matter what your situation, if your child is anxious, there will be information and ideas to help in this book. You do have to figure out how to adapt tactics and strategies to your family/situation...but that's the playful part and it's honestly fun. With mind blowing results. As all the kids went off with the teachers and my daughter went with them, (with NO apparent anxiety at the second school), I wanted to jump up and down with amazement. Dr Cohen, you have changed our lives and I'm telling EVERYONE about your book. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I absolutely LOVE this book. I am an LCSW and a mom and the techniques in this book have made me a better clinician but more importantly a better more confident parent. Im about to read it again!

I would say this book is more for mild to moderate anxiety. My daughter has severe anxiety. I'm aware of the tools in this book and it isn't at the level we need.

I read and listened to this book cover to cover. Even though I myself have anxiety I was at a complete loss how to deal with my daughter's crying and angry outbursts at going to bed. Reading the book gave me insight into what we were doing wrong and now hopefully through love and acceptance I can better guide her inner strength to come out. Highly recommend.

Sandra Boynton writes, hands down, my favorite children's books. I learned about them when our school librarian bought a couple for my daughter. Her illustrations are adorable and her stories are too! Barnyard Dance is my favorite,but I won almost all of them. Some are educational (Opposites) and some are just fun (Dinosaur Dance). I have also bought these as gifts and everyone absolutely adores them. If you are looking for a short, fun book for a little kid, get one of these. They might not be complex enough to hold the attention of older kids though (but I don't know because I don't have any older kids).

It's always hit or miss with the Boynton books with my 7 month old daughter. She loves ones that have lots of sound effects and/or animal sounds - Moo Baa La La La is her absolute favorite - but often you can't preview much of the book on Amazon to see whether it has a lot of funny noises and rhymes so it becomes trial and error. Dinosaur Dance was luckily a hit! Not as big a hit as Moo Baa La La La but maybe it will get there with time. Lots of funny sound effects you can make as dramatic as you'd like when you read to your child, and those are always the best. I also really like that Amazon let you have a pretty in-depth preview of this particular book which they usually don't.

Adorable illustrations and a fun read with children. Really liked seeing different dinosaur names but could be challenging for a child trying to read the book. I bought this book for my twin nephews, so it was a pleasant surprise to see they had included twins in the book. We are a big fan of Sandra Boynton and this book was another hit!

We have several Boynton books. They are simple rhymes with cute, simple illustrations. My son has become a lover of dinosaurs, so we added this to our book collection. Very catchy, similar to Barnyard Dance, but simpler. Love the little board book. I can recite this from memory as my son pages through it in the car.

You’ll either love it or hate it. I’ve heard numerous people say how much they love Boynton’s childrens books. I just don’t get it. There is no plot and most of the words are silly/made up. I prefer stories that have a beginning, middle, + end and use real words. Further, the book ends abruptly. Suffice to say, this is my 5th Boynton book (others given as gifts) and it’s no better than the rest. Don’t let the dinosaurs convince you that this one is any different - there are better books for your little one.

We purchased this book for our 1 year old who is crazy about dinosaurs. He screams and squeals the names of each dinosaur when we read it. It’s definitely a hit. The illustrations are adorable and my kids love them. The book itself is high quality and well made. We love Sandra Boynton books!

The littles love this book, and so does Nana! Fun illustrations and rhyme, and we've added our own motions to go along with the story. The 15 month old and her 2 1/2 yr old sister both bring this book to be read multiple times each day, and will choose reading it over watching cartoons, which is always a win!

My son was two and a half months when we got this book. He was interested in it immediately and now at four months it is still one of his favorites. We've read it so many times that I have it memorized now and can just help him do the dance motions while I recite it. He thinks it's a lot of fun.

My son loves Sandra Boynton and we both enjoy this cute book! The cardboard is good construction and a toddler can be trusted to play with this on his own. It inspired me to have a dino-themed first birthday party for him! A reading time favorite for us both!

As with all the trails maps this is well made on quality waterproof paper, and very detailed. What i didnt realize is that this is a water trails map not a hiking trails map. I will still put it to use, just not what I expected.

I have carved most of the Cowboys in Taylor's book. I love his patterns and wish there were more. His designs and patterns are Taylor made (excuse the pun) for carvers of all types. I use standard carving knives and work also with power tools, especially for the initial rough outs. His patterns are easy to follow and just plain fun. The shelves in our home are alive with cowboys usually interacting witn one another. Usually I don't carve them with the interaction in mind, they just fit that way. If you haven't tried Taylor, I highly recommend his books. I have to write that because I don't knowhim personally.

Very nice book. Lots of inspiration and demonstration. Not for the beginner. Should have a little experience at simpler stuff first. Good stuff.

Just getting started in woodcarving at the age of 77 but I live on a ranch and my heroes have always been cowboys and I look forward to carving caricatures of them.

Philippa Gregory is the author of many New York Times bestselling novels, including The Other Boleyn Girl, and is a recognized authority on women’s history. Many of her works have been adapted for the screen including The Other Boleyn Girl. Her most recent novel, The Last Tudor, is now in production for a television series. She graduated from the University of Sussex and received a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, where she is a Regent. I only paid $2.99 for this book (check out bookbub!), but I paid too much. I truly enjoy most of PG's novels, but take them with a grain of salt. I always read a reliable source (such as Alison Weir) if I really want to read what is actually known about a given monarch. PG does so well bringing facts alive, but takes liberties everywhere. Regarding this novel: it is the same material, repeated (using some of the same words and phrases), over and over and over again. Some reviewers have mentioned this, but truly, it would be laughable if it weren't so frustrating. MQS is a fascinating woman; so much more could have been done with her character. Additionally, Bess is the reason I gave this book two stars rather than one--she's intriguing. Unfortunately, the fascination ends after the 4th and 5th repetitions of the same exact thoughts and actions. Margaret George wrote 870 pages about MQS, and I found the novel compelling. PG phoned in this one.*Full disclosure: I could not go past the halfway point.*

I've recently become interested in learning about Mary, Queen of Scots; this gives an interesting take on the period of her life that seems to be the least talked about, when Mary seeks protection in England and in exchange Queen Elizabeth causes her to become restrained in an English earl's home to make her comfortable, but not technically free. Other depictions I've seen of Mary make her more likable; Gregory portrays her as quite shallow and selfish, yet still fun to read about. The switching up of narrators throughout this book makes it easy for the reader to see how Mary impacted people around her - George, her genteel imprisoner the earl who has been given the contradictory instructions by Queen Elizabeth to treat Mary with respect as a queen deserves but also monitor her to make sure she is not plotting to steal the English throne, finds Mary to be the most irresistible woman despite his undying loyalty to his wife and his queen. George's wife Bess is jealous of Mary for the bewitching effect her beauty has on men and bitter at all the money and assets housing Mary costs her, but she even admits to the reader it is impossible not to warm to Mary. My only criticism of the book is there's so much anticipation as to what will happen between Mary and her "frenemy" Elizabeth and then all of a sudden, it's several years later and there's a quick description of the circumstances of Mary's death, from Bess after she has received the news. I would have liked Mary's first person point of view leading up to her death, so I found the end to be abrupt and lackluster. But up until that point I couldn't put the book down.

I love historical fiction and I usually love Phillipa Gregory's books. But this one didn't quite do it for me. Mary Queen of Scots is an interesting character who led a fascinating life but in this book the best parts are all behind her--France and her marriage to the king, Scotland and her husband and lover. Here she is merely a pawn in everyone's power game. The book is an elaborate chess game where one queen is moved from place to place while the opposing queen tries to decide what to do with her. As well written as it is, it isn't the best of this series.

This book took me a little longer than usual to read, not because of the quality of the writing, but because this was a part of Tudor history I didn't know much about and I found myself constantly looking up the characters and places Gregory mentioned in the book.I think writing this book from 3 different first person perspectives gave an interesting view of the time period. Three different people have three very different views of the same event. I found myself constantly thrown for a loop by Mary. She never thought twice about lying and it was interesting to see how she would portray an event to others, and then how she actually thought of the same event.Bess is one of the best historical fiction characters I've read in a long time. From Gregory's book, as well as the researching I did on my own, I've come to really love her strength and determination. She was a smart business woman and used that to her advantage. She worked her way up and earned the things she had, even if it was through marriage, and worked hard to keep herself safe and secure for the future. I think more women in books should be like her.Yet again, Gregory has me thinking about the little things in history and how one simple decision can change the fate of a country, and the world. While not my favorite book (The Queen's Fool has that title), it was a great read and sheds more light onto the Tudor era of history.

For me, Gregory is hit or miss, and this was mostly a miss.The book is about Mary Queen of Scots exile and imprisonment from the throne. Written in three voices -- Mary, Shrewsbury, and his wife Bess, the latter tasked with housing her.I had just finished the 5th book in this Tudor series and Cecil was the redeeming character. Therefore it was incredibly difficult to slam on the brakes and read of a nasty, scheming Cecil ten years later.I was thoroughly disgusted with Bess, whose "I am an independent woman" shtick grated on my last nerve. Queen Mary is just delusional, and Shrewsbury loses pretty much all regard by the end, and I felt sorry for him.I was deeply disappointed by the ending. Anyone with history behind them knows the Scots queen was beheaded, yet for some inexplicable reason, Gregory chose to cover the entire POINT of the book in a dream sequence of Shrewsbury and the loathsome gloating of Bess. After committing myself to a long, drawn out account of the Queen avoiding The Tower, why didn't the author at the minimum give Mary a final voice?Not the best. I feel like I wasted my time and bought a different book about this instead.

About the Author

Dr. Leigh, who trained in neurology at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Cornell Medical Center in New York, and the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, has applied eye movements to study a broad range of disorders affecting the brain, eye, or ear during his career as a clinician-scientist. He has served on review committees of the National Institutes of Health and on the editorial boards of journals Annals of Neurology and Neurology. His collaboration of over 35 years with Dr. Zee has produced many joint publications including five editions of the Neurology of Eye Movements.Dr. Zee first came to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore in 1965 as a medical student and then trained there in neurology after an internal medicine internship at Cornell Medical Center in New York. Both his research and clinical focus has been on eye movement and vestibular disorders. He has had three sabbatical years at the National Eye Institute in their Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research. He first began working with Dr. Leigh in the late 1970s when Dr. Leigh was at Hopkins as a fellow and then a faulty member.
